"Catch the Reading Bug"
Summer Reading Program
The
Marjorie Younce Snook Public Library recently completed it's very first summer reading program "Catch the Reading
Bug". We had a fantastic turnout with seventy-nine children registering for the event. On June 10th the Summerdale Puppets kicked off the program with
a puppet show and music followed by Magician Peter Toler performing a variety of magic tricks. Billie Jo Underwood was our
featured reader for story time. The children made bookmarks and spider candy holders during craft time, and enjoyed face painting
and refreshments.
Entertainment for
our June 17th program was provided by Wes Moore of Alligator Alley. Wes brought one of his pets, a small alligator, with him
and gave many interesting and unusual facts about alligators. Our featured reader for story time was Norma Giles. The children
enjoyed making alligator puppets and alligator magnets for crafts along with face painting and refreshments.
For the June 24th program, Tim Mullek brought his tractor and
wheat baler for demonstrations. The children were also allowed to sit in the tractor and raise the baler up and down. Entertainment
was also provided by Mr. Spoons the Clown, who involved the children in singing and magic tricks. Our featured reader for
story time was Roberta Mullek. During craft time the children painted sun catchers and scarecrows and finished up with face
painting and refreshments.
The Grand
Finale on July 8th featured a giant water slide and pizza party along with face painting. The children received reading certificates
and goody bags for their participation and the top three readers received prizes of a stuffed animal and book. The top three
readers were Kayla Parnell, Dianna Burke and Amber Burke.
The library would like to thank Summer Scoops and Waffle House in Summerdale along with WalMart and Winn Dixie in Foley for
their generous donations and everyone involved for helping to make our first summer reading program a huge success.
