A Civil War Era ship, possibly the Monticello according to local experts, was uncovered by Hurricane Ike on Fort Morgan Road at the #6 mile marker. The wrecked ship is 136 feet long and 25 feet wide and has design features like those of a vessel built just before the Civil War. The Monticello was a two-masted schooner that was run aground and burned while sailing from Havana to Mobile, according to U.S. Navy records.
