RULES OF CONDUCT

  The Library is intended to be used for reading, writing, studying, computer use and private listening of audio material. These Rules of Conduct have been adopted to ensure the safety, comfort, and access to Library resources and facilities for everyone. Failure to cooperate with the Library staff or engaging in any behavior which is inappropriate in a library setting interferes with this goal. Those willing to modify inappropriate behavior are always welcome to stay. Those unable to comply will be asked to leave. The following are examples of inappropriate behavior:  
1. Unauthorized use of entrances and exits.
2. Noisy or disruptive behavior is prohibited. Any verbal abuse or threatening gestures, whether toward staff or library users, will not be allowed.
3. Restrooms are to be used for their obvious purposes only.
4. No food or drink is allowed in the library.
5. Patrons may not use library materials or facilities in any manner that would likely cause the materials or facilities to be damaged.
6. Library patrons should be courteous to others when using cell phones. Cell phones may be used in the lobby areas only. Also, it is requested that attendees/participants turn off cellular phones during all library programs.
7. Library users are prohibited from non‐public areas.
8. All library materials must be checked out before leaving the building.
9. Reference materials may not be removed from the library. Anyone who attempts to remove these materials may be prosecuted.
10. All bags, briefcases, backpacks, containers, books, papers, and similar items are subject to inspection by library security.
11. Anyone who steals or vandalizes library property may be prosecuted.
12. Library users may not bring animals in the library, except for guide dogs for persons with disabilities.
13. The library is not to be used as a place to sleep.
14. Library users must be fully clothed, including shoes and shirts.
15. No weapons of any kind are permitted in the library.
16. Bicycles, skateboards, skates, baby strollers etc. cannot block Library entrances nor can they be left in the Library.
17. Roller‐skating, roller‐blading, skateboarding and bicycle riding is not permitted in the library parking lot.
18. Library equipment which is available for public use must be operated in accordance with the guidelines for such equipment set out in each department or location.
19. Laptop speakers should be muted when laptops are used in the public areas.
20. All children in grades 4 and under must be accompanied by a responsible adult at all times in the library.
21. Any illegal act or conduct in violation of federal, state, or local law ordinance or regulation is not permitted.
22. No smoking or tobacco use is allowed anywhere in the library or on library property.

Persons who violate these rules may be asked to leave the Library. Those refusing to leave when asked will be subject to arrest under the disorderly conduct (§ 13A‐11‐17) and trespass (§ 13A‐7‐1) laws of the Alabama State Code
